You certainly have a grasp of the principle I was explaining ‘ no such thing as a free lunch’ and any’free consultation’ offer is really just an opportunity to convert your enquirer (prospect) into a client and not much more. Practitioners who have completed either or both our Basic or Advanced level of the Business Advisor ‘Fast Track’ Programs use the tools they get to ‘demonstrate’ their expertise in the BA arena and how they can add real value to the relationship. If not, the client (prospect) tends only to be interested in ‘how much tax can you save me’ (are you smarter than the other guy) or ‘what will you charge me’ (are you cheaper than the other guy). Showing them how much better off they will be in their business is I believe, a much better way to spend the time you’re giving them. They will most likely learn something they (e.g. why some business owners succeed and other don’t) didn’t know before meeting you resulting in them seeing you in a very different light. Cheers, K

I offer ‘free conultation’ as you put it and the reason they are free is that nothing actually happens in the meeting. Its more get to know each other and discuss clients needs and our offering. It also discusses what our fees are likely to be and anything else of interest to establishing our relationship.

I dont see that that type of meeting could be charged? Maybe you have a good point and the word consultation should be changed as its more of a friendly meeting and ‘consultation’ seems very rigid.
